Wine Production

The ABS reported that 1,171 ML of beverage wine was produced (winemakers crushing more than 400 tonnes) a decrease of 5.3% compared with 2007-08 when 1,236 ML of wine was produced (Table 10). Production of unfortified wine accounted for 99.1% of the total beverage wine. Red/rosé wine made up 623.1 ML or 53.7% of the 2008-09 beverage wine. White wine accounted for 537.3 ML or 46.3% of total production.

South Australia produced 514.4 ML or 43.9% of the total production, followed by New South Wales with 436.3 ML (37.3%) and Victoria 183.6 ML (15.7%). Western Australia's production dropped by 20.9% and Tasmania's dropped by 48.2%. Only New South Wales and Queensland show positive growth in 2008-09. All states produced more beverage wine than 2006-07.
