Adelaide Hills viticultural development and consultancy services provider, Infield Ag Pty Ltd, won the coveted Wine Industry Suppliers Australia (WISA) Supplier Of The Year award for 2009. The award was announced at WISA’s black-tie function at the National Wine Centre last Friday night.
Infield was the judge’s selection as Supplier Of The Year, beating finalists Croplands, Pellenc and Winetitles for the honour.
Infield’s submission for the award was presented to judges in May, by managing director Tom Ayers and general manager Graham Whenan. The company said testimonials and accolades by customers including Daniel Zuzulo from Primo Estate Wines; Charlie Downer from Murdoch Hill and James Thorpe from Nova Vita Wines had gone a long way towards convincing the judges that Infield was a worthwhile finalist and contestant.
It was a particularly shining night for viticultural supplier companies, showing the depth of innovation and development that exists in this sector of the supply industry. Earlier in the evening, Croplands won the WBM Innovation award; Irrigation and Water Technology won the Provisor Environment and Sustainability Award; and Tarac Technologies won the Donaldson Walsh Lawyers Export Award.
Managing director of Pellenc, Louise Fraser, who is also the immediate past-chair of WISA, was awarded the Chairman’s Award for services to the wine industry and particularly for suppliers in the wine industry.
It was a particularly significant evening for guests and staff of Tarac Technologies who attended the WISA event. Tarac’s joint CEO, and former WISA committee member and Treasurer, Nic Law, lost his battle with cancer earlier this year. WISA, with the support of the Leukaemia Foundation, used the occasion to commemorate Nic Law’s life and career in the wine industry and with WISA. Many members of Nic’s immediate family attended as guests and ex-WISA chairperson, Louise Fraser, presented a special commemoration in honour of Nic’s work with WISA.
Guests had opportunity to support the Leukaemia Foundation with a donation on the night, and more than $14,000 was raised for the Foundation; including a single $10,000 donation from Nic’s wife Lizzie.
