Angel Flight flies high with Coonawarra Vignerons’ donation

The Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations has fast become a Coonawarra tradition. With a program of approximately 50 events over 3 days, the region comes alive with music, amazing wines, entertainment, local cuisine and culminates with the Jazz and Sparkling Brunch and Barrel Series Wine Auction.

Each year, the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations donates the proceeds from the Barrel Series Auction to charity. Over the past six years, the Coonawarra Vignerons Association has donated over $155,000 to local non-profit organisations such as the Penola Memorial Hospital and the Autism Association of SA. This past October was no exception. Barrel Series 11 increased its charity component with the national organisation Angel Flight Australia being chosen as the lucky recipient of the net proceeds of the two highest selling barrels.

Today at the Coonawarra Airstrip, Angel Flight Australia will be presented with a cheque from the Coonawarra Vignerons Association for the sum of $30,000. This is the largest single donation that the Association has made to a specific charity.

Veteran Angel Flight pilot Barrie Aarons and new addition to the Angel Flight team, pilot Ken McEachern, will be on hand to accept the cheque on behalf of Angel Flight. Angel Flight is a non- profit organization with nearly 1800 pilots registered across Australia, all of whom are keen to donate their time and aircrafts to help people in need tackle the tyranny of distance to receive non-emergency medical or humanitarian help, which would otherwise be out of their reach. Whilst the air operations side of Angel Flight is supplied free of charge by Angel Flight pilots, there are still important ground operations that need funding. Hundreds of flight enquiries are expected each year.
